The BOREALIS Fat Bike World Championships is an annual event in beautiful Crested Butte, Colorado that celebrates bikes and the people who ride them… in the winter! Whether you are a professional racer looking to defend your title, or a novice who pedals minimally and parties maximally, this event is for YOU!
Sandwiched between the Town of Crested Butte and Crested Butte Mountain, this venue has killer views and wide open spaces, as well as the charm of the being next to downtown CB. Typically designated for Nordic skiing only, we are grateful for permission from the CB Nordic Center to set up a Fat Bike course you will never forget!
TENTATIVE Schedule of 2020 Events:
Friday, January 24: Town Ranch, Crested Butte, CO
Race Headquarters will be set up for the weekend at Town Ranch in downtown Crested Butte. Test out free bike demos on the iconic Town Ranch trails, pre-ride Saturday’s race course, talk with industry professionals, and check out the latest and greatest in winter biking gear at our Vendor Expo! 10am- 3pm
Afterward, head to CB's main street, Elk Avenue, for our first-ever Fat Bike Worlds Bike Polo Tournament! Teams of two will compete in a tournament-style bracket to bring home the title. You can play polo or just enjoy front row seats to the tournament from the patio of the Brick Oven Pizzeria during our opening party! Enjoy beverages from Ska Brewing all evening. 5pm-9:30pm
Saturday, January 25: Town Ranch | 11 AM
(Championship Race: 32.5 miles, 5 laps) / (Fun Race: 19.5 miles, 3 laps)
While the race is underway, the vendor expo, free beer, and grilling will continue all day long as we cheer on our competitors! Please note that racer cut-off time is 3pm.
Awards will begin at 4:20pm, followed by prizes and gieaways and our evening entertainment at Race Headquarters! Enjoy a fire pit, live music, and free food and beer for competitors!

Additionally, the men and women in the ‘Overall’ can’t double dip into their age category. So it does give a chance for someone to come in 6th say in the 24 - 35, but lands in 4th b/c two of those folks went into the Overall.

Group Fatty Ride sponsored by 45NRTH! Enjoy a leisurely morning, then meet for a sponsored group ride at 10am. Take in the crisp mountain views while pedaling the best local fat bike trails in the north end of the Gunnison Valley.
